Modeling the Sunshine Icarus 2 Spacecraft in high detail 3D

Thank you for visiting my Icarus 2 page! On this page I will be chronicling the most ambitious personal 3D Modeling project of mine to date... the extremely detailed 3D modeling of the Sunshine Icarus 2 Spacecraft from the 2007 movie Sunshine by Danny Boyle, starring Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight), the lovely Rose Byrne (28 Weeks Later, X-Men First Class), Chris Evans (Captain America, Fantastic 4), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Twilight Samurai, Rush Hour 3), Troy Garity (Bandits, Gangster Squad), Benedict Wong (Prometheus), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Cliff Curtis (Live Free or Die Hard, Training Day): IMDB. Fantastic movie, very deep! I'll be using Cinema 4D to model the ship.

Sunshine Icarus 2

The ship, the Icarus 2, (or Icarus II - commonly known Online as the 'Sunshine Icarus 2' or simply 'Sunshine Icarus') is a wonderfully complex and extremely well built model originally created by the talented artists over at MPC Soho - in my version of the Icarus 2 I will attempt to do their model justice, as well as add some detail previously unseen before in order to enable renders not yet seen... as a friend in the industry once said, "a general rule of thumb is, don't model what you will not see on film..."

I have modeled the 'people portion' of the Icarus 2 first, which contains crew quarters, the command center, and a plethora of various assorted modules, including the ill-fated "Oxygen Garden" (second largest module from the stern of the ship). I have also textured and started the lighting rig on this portion of the ship before jumping to the daunting task of modeling the humongous main shield which both protects the ship from the sun, as well as houses the 'payload' - a huge Stellar Bomb with which the intrepid crew hopes to rekindle the dying sun and save a world thrown into another Ice Age. The film takes place not too far in our future, in the year 2057, so most parts of the ship would look at least somewhat similar to technology available today. Hence the cylindrical modules scattered about the Icarus 2.

Eight astronauts strapped to the back of a bomb. My bomb. Welcome to the Icarus Two.

At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.

Do I have to spell it out for you? We have a payload to deliver to the heart of our nearest star. We are delivering that payload cause that star is dying and if it dies, we die, everything dies. So that is our mission, there is nothing, literally nothing more important than completing our mission.
